throughout the state have converged this morning to mourn the dead. >> reporter: we are in -- sandy hook rights here, across from the volunteer fire department. you can see quite a bit of activity. police, firefighters, 24 hours ago it was a different scene, children were running here from their school just around the corner, sandy hook elementary to this fire station after being told by police this is where they can come to be safe because of what was happening in the school. it was a scene of chaos and horror, terrified children, hundreds of them coming here. this morning much calmer, no chaos. nothing horrible but still the memory of what happened yesterday. now, the police are here obviously, state police still here. the investigation continues at the school. just around the corner. you can see the police over there talking to people coming in. making sure that the media don't crossover the line. taking flowers as people bring them in. we got here at about 1:40 this morning after flying in from the bay area. we went straight to saint rose church where there was a human memorial vigil

's not all tea and crumb pets it turns out. kate is in hospital with very serious mourning sickness. in fact, the kind of mourning sickness that the fox report's chief correspondent jonathan hunt tells us sends you to the hospital for some time. i didn't know about this. >> you have all of these newspapers, web sites tv networks falling all over themselves with the excitement of this pregnancy. kate middleton's is not having a very good time. she is in the hospital. she was visited there by william himself today. she something treated for something called hyper emesis -- extreme form of mourning sickness. to call it mourning -- morning sickness is to call a bad cold really bad. this seems to have come on pretty quickly. because last week, just last week we saw kate out on the field hockey field playing in high heels there. it suddenly happened. but it is pretty bad. we're told that this pregnancy is less than 12 weeks old. and the -- it was only announced because she had to go into the hospital today. so, we'll see what happens next. they are saying at the moment she will just be in there fo

as newtown continues to mourn the loss of 20 children and six adults. vice president joe biden will meet with law enforcement officers from across the country today. the goal is to come up with recommendations to curb gun violence. funeral services for five more victims are being held today. cbs reporter marlie hall with the new call for action. >> my name is richard bloomenthal. >> reporter: connecticut senator bloomenthal and chris murphy met with a group called newtown united who came together after the shooting to push for a ban on assault weapons. they may have a new supporter in president obama. he wants new laws to try to prevent another tragedy like the one at sandy hook elementary school. >> the fact that we can't prevent every act of violence doesn't mean we can't steadily reduce the violence. >> as head of the president's task force, vice president biden will look into banning assault weapons. but gun advocates say that's not necessary. >> there are lots of things we can do to make sure that only the right people have firearms. >> reporter: there will be at least nine more fun

, connecticut people are still mourning for the 20 children and six adults who were killed when a gunman burst into their school and opened fire. this round-the-clock vigil is under way in remembrance of the shooting victims. a candle was lit in honor of each of them. volunteers are asked to take half hour shifts to keep the candles burning. the vigil started at midnight and will continue until 11:59 tonight. the tragedy in newtown was followed by an outpouring of support from around the world and from nearby communities. today the entire newtown police department is actually getting christmas day off thanks to the generosity of their fellow officers. police from neighboring towns volunteered to fill in so that newtown officers could spend christmas with their families. joining us on the phone newtown police chief michael kehoe. he has been through quite a lot and your officers have been through quite a lot as well as the community. give us a sense of what this means for them to simply be with their own loved ones, their own kids in this time of recovery and grief. >> you are absolutely correc

mourning the loss of a singer by the name of jenni rivera who was a huge star particularly in latin america. she died yesterday evening in a plane crash in northern mexico. jenni was a real american success story. she was born in california to immigrants from mexico. started working at her father's small record label in long beach, california, recorded from there there, made a number of top hits, she was recently in florida to receive a billboard aand performed at the the billboard awards. my mom was a huge fan of hers, also kind of equivalent "the voice" in mexico on the telemunddo network. she was a singer in a genre dominated by males. burr she sung frankly about her struggles to give her children a better life in this country. so her death is a real tragedy at a young age, and i know there are millions of people across the country and around the world mourning her loss today. she is survived by her five children and two grandchildren and our prayers go to her that god may grant her family the peace to deal with this difficult circumstance. mr. president, i come here today on december 10
